While your heater core may be the start of the problem, white smoke indicates a head gasket problem. A leaking heater core could have allowed the coolant level to get low, and in turn the low coolant allowed the motor to overheat, blowing the head gasket. Have the car towed in and checked by a qualified mechanic, but I am afraid you have major problems!!

Thermostat may be stuck,
Is your floor board wet? Or do you see antifreeze leaking near your firewall? If you do then it's more than likely your heater core. But a sticking thermostat or a cooling system restriction could also cause your problem

It could be your heater core, your radiator or you could have cracked the block on the engine. Don't run it until you get it fixed or something bad like a cracked block can happen. Best to have it towed.

When my heater core went out the same thing happened. Luckily I got it fixed before the weather went bad.

Sounds more like a blown head or cracked block. I would get it to a garage fast
