If the sod gets full sun all day long and gets watered every day for a month it has a chance. You can apply a moisture manager to keep the soil moisture stable after the first month. You can increase the label application rate without damage.

Definitely wait until spring. Most grasses will go dormant after the first frost or freeze. It all depends on soil temperature. If you must plant some type of grass to prevent soil erosion, plant a winter rye grass.

Depending on how cold it gets by you. If I had the option, I would wait till spring. It could freeze up during the winter and kill most of it,,,,,especially with no root base. For my money, I would wait till spring.
