Hi I'm thinking about getting a Game Cube for my 16 year old daughter, 12 year old grandson and 8 year old grand daughter. I'm thinking about getting one for them to play because, their Nintendo 64 is going out. And my daughter and 12 year old grandson both have game boy advance SPs. What do you all think? Should I go for a Game Cube, PS2, or XBox.

There is no way I'm paying for a XBox 360 or a PS3. No Way.

No I'm sorry. I was meaning to say that The Nintendo 64 keeps going out and then it won't work for about 2 weeks. That's why I wanted to get the children another game system.

YES!!!!! The gamecube is kid-friendly - who doesn't love mario and Link, and Yoshi!!! - and is hard to destroy! I saw a thing on tv where they put a PS2, Xbox, and the gamecube through serious torture tests, and the gamecube STILL worked!!! I'd have to say, of all the modern game consoles, the cube is probably the best for kids. Plus - with extra parts and/or cables - the kids can play their gameboy games right through the gamecube! I have found this is especially great when you combine them for Pokemon, for breeding and leveling up! I have two kids who own a 64, and they love it, but they always beg to play our consoles, since we have many more, cooler games. (we have almost everything... lol)

I would also like to suggest a PS2. (not PS3!!) It's not much more expensive than a cube, (I think around $130 now for a new slim) and has better graphics, and a ton of games to choose from. It has been my long-time favorite console, since my Atari. (uh-oh, age showing... sorry... lol!!!) The controllers aren't nearly as akward to hold, in fact I believe they're perfect. The 64 and the regular sized 'cube controllers are big and bulky, and make game-playing hard for little hands like my kids. The PS2 also has great add-ons like the "eye toy" where you can immerse yourself into the game, and see yourself on the screen. I personally don't have it, but I think kids would enjoy it a lot!! Another thing is, the PS2 will play all the older PS1 games too, so that opens it up to a whole other library of great games!

A bit of a suggestion though, no matter what you choose, pay close attention to what games they are given. If for instance, you do not want them exposed to drug or sexual content READ THE BACK of the game to find out if has got it in it or not. It will also list the ages appropriate for the games. The 64 was a little early for these specifics, so make sure you pay close attention, when your kids BEG for this game or that - Read it first! Ask the sales clerk about the game too! He'll be able to tell you if the game is worth the $20 or more you spend in it! Plus, if the kids are given a game for xmas, DO NOT OPEN IT, before you get the chance to examine the content. If it is not open and still has the seals on it, most game retailers will take it back, or let you exchange it!

I hope this helps in your decision. Please email me @ Swtangei6(at)yahoo, if you would like to know of some fantastic games - no matter which you choose - for your lovely darlilngs!!! I'm a big kid myself, and can give you a great rundown of games perfect for their ages!!!

Good Luck!!!
;o)

I'm not sure if you have/haven't considered getting the kids a Nintendo Wii. The good thing about the Wii is that it can also play Gamecube games. And if the young ones so desire, they will be able to play a back catalogue of games from past Nintendo systems including the N64, Super Nintendo, and NES via the Virtual Console (it allows them to download games from those systems).

But if you don't want to spend the money on this new generation of consoles, then I would suggest going for the Gamecube. The Gamecube has a great library of games, plus they also have the Gameboy Player addon, which might be a little hard to find. But essentially it would allow the kids to play their GBA games on the Gamecube.

I have a Nintendo 64 and really like it. I have also previously owned the PS2, which both will be going down in price b/c of the new systems that are out. any way, they are both great systems, but I would go w/the Nintendo.

Game Cubes will last a long time, i cant tell you that much. there is no disk reader tray that pops out, (just a little door that you manually open) so there is little chance of that breaking, the disks are tiny, so it is easier to grasp your hand around them preventing scratches and fingerprints, and it allows up to 4 people play if you have 4 controllers, just like the Nintendo 64. So i would give it a go.

The GC is a good system, a little limited in that it plays a small CD and that is all it will fit. A good library of games available. The PS2 is likely a better choice as it has more versatility. It can play DVD movies and music CDs as well as the games. Both systems have a large library of titles already out and you can find some titles at Wal Mart for as low as $19.99.

We have three game cubes and love them. Our 2 1/2 year old son can play games on it, as well as our 11 year old. They have the easiest controller set up for little hands. There not as expansive as the others are either.
