I'm English and I'm tolerant but I'm not a man. British people have honour and ethics ingrained into them. It has to do with the class system there. If you look beyond that, there are tolerant and intolerant people in every culture. There are different factors involved: age, education, religion, upbringing. When people see issues affecting them, such as an influx of a particular race of immigrants on their street all speaking in a language only the immigrants understand, the neighbours may react adversely due to their feelings of alienation. There may be other factors too: crime patterns, availability of work, public policy. It's a complex question but I think the bottom line is, everything's okay until it happens in your own backyard and infringes on your lifestyle.

I think the word tolerence is an intollerable word, it's a cop out, somewhere between acceptance & not being honest with expressing ones truths. now if you ask can some british men bite thier tongue, then i would say yes. The word tollerance i believe only applies to people who are controlling, & can't get thier own way.

I think that we are tolerant insofar as we will let another chap have his say and having explained why he is wrong, agree to differ.

I do believe that tolerance and patience are the two great British vices. They are used as excuses for inaction in numerous commercial and social situations.

My observation as a resident outsider is that English 'manners' force a certain level of tolerance, at least until they're in different company and can complain at length.

It only seems to me that the English, generally speaking, really have no clue as to how their actions affect other people. They of course usually disagree, which may prove my point.

And then they get drunk....

Tolerant of what?

stupidity... no.... oral sex.. yes.

I don't get the question because everyone has limits to their tolerance and what that limit is is an individual thing.
