What a Legend

Puskas was the greatest.
Remember that he was outstanding in two different decades in football (1950s and 1960s) and even in the mid 1960s in the Spanish league there was a game when he scored five goals!
Don't forget that Puskas was playing in an era where there was a lot more physical contact e.g. two-footed tackles from behind were still legal. There is no doubt that he would still be outstanding in today's game. His technique and accuracy was something else.
And it wasn't just the goals, but the way he brought others into the game that made him the greatest player ever. A great leader.
(By the way, a lot of Pele's 1,000 goals were in exhibition matches)

Yes he was an absolute and genuine legend (a word thrown around too easily nowadays). He played in some great sides with great players of his era. However I still think George Best was as his name suggests the best. He had more of an all round game than Puskas.

I had to answer this question even though it's already been answered. I want to echo Andy's post - Greaves was outstanding & certainly England's all time best though sometimes overlooked in these days of hype.
Puskas was a legend & no doubt about it. The figures you give rival & compare with Bradman at cricket (just under 100 per innings) It's difficult to argue against Puskas in terms of goalscoring but Pele was still the best for me overall.

Definitely one of the best of all time,it's a shame he wasn't around a bit later so we could compare him with some other players.always difficult to answer these sort of questions, cos you never know how he would do in today's game, but definitely the best of his era and certainly the most successful goalscorer of all time! definitely doesn't get as much recognition and publicity as he should!well done for mentioning him!!

have a look at Jimmy Greaves' record..not as good as Puskas, but i think he comes second overall and again never gets remembered as much as he should.except by spurs fans!

for example for england Greavsie scored 44goals in 57 appearances.

Bobby Charlton holds the record with 49goals in 106 appearances,so as far as i'm concerned Greavsie was the best goalscorer and would've gone on to score many more if he hadn't fallen out with Alf Ramsey!

Greavsie also scored on his debut for every club he played for!

Pure legend. But I still think Di Stefano made that Real team.
Although him and Kocsis were unbeatable for the National side!

You are right. He is a real legend. But would he be the same force in todays faster, more technical game?

He was a great player. Too bad he didn't carry his team to the world cup against Germany.
