Im trying to save my job! I had company files that I shouldn't have been posessing on a thumb drive. If I save the files that I was "allowed" to have on another drive. Then wipe my work thumb drive with a program like Rescue Pro (which writes 1's & 0's to the entire drive). Then I return the "allowed" files back to my work thumb drive. will anyone be able to tell I ever had the questionable files on there? My yahoo messenger ID is laprincess1975 if you need to IM me over this. I'm trying to keep my job and keep my butt out of a world of crap!

tsk, tsk I'm not even going to ask why you have stuff you shouldn't have, but... If you move, erase and format, then move back, the average tech probably will probably not be able to find out what you had on there earlier. However, since I don't know how skilled your company IT staff is, you should know there is still a chance that they can recover some of the file information. I'd use the Rescue Pro program SEVERAL times and also fill up the thumb drive with junk a few times between erases.
Next time, don't go there and you won't have to worry about getting caught.

You might want to remove the files from the jump drive using a program like File Shredder or something similar - something that *permanently* deletes files.

if you go into the thumb drive, you should just be able to select the "questionable files" and delete them by hand

Using any program like that will remove the chance of recovering data that was on the device.
