The previous answers are correct, but not complete. Generally, any equation which involves a variable being raised to an even-numbered power (x^2, x^8, etc.) will have two correct answers. In order to find both answers, you need to factor the polynomial (8x^2 - 25x) into its individual parts. To do that, you would pull out those components that are part of both 8x^2 and -25x. In this case, that's just x.
So, 8x^2 - 25x = 0
x (8x - 25) = 0
That means that if _either_ x or (8x - 25) equals 0, the equation is solved. Solve 8x - 25 = 0 to find that x can also equal 25/8, or 3 1/8.
Thus, the answer is x = 0, 3 1/8

Solve using the quadratic equation:
x= -b + or - sqr(b^2 - 4ac)/2a
always use this formula when you have an equation in the form:
ax^2 + bx + c = 0 with a & b being the coefficients of x and c being any integer. When c is not present c = 0 and when a or b is not present then a or b = 1.
Because of -b + or - x will have two values:
x = -b + sqr(b^2 - 4ac)/2a and x = -b - sqr(b^2 - 4ac)/2a
Because I like to work with positive integers at least with the variable b before you start pluging in the variables multiply the orginal problem thru by -1 to set b to a positive integer so the original problem will look like this: -8x^2 + 25x = 0. This is simply to avoid confusion when changing sign of b in th quadratic equation b^2 will still be a positive integer because a neg * neg = pos.
And since -4ac will evaluate to 0 you can simplfy the problem even further to :
x = -b + sqr(b^2)/2a and x = -b - sqr(b^2)/2a
In english x = -25 + (25/-16) and x = -25 - (25/-16). In both cases this will make x to equal a negetive number.

use the formula Negative b plus/minus the square root of b squared minus 4 ac over 2 a. In your case, 8=a, 25=b 0=c, The answers are 25/8 or 3.125, and 0
