If his wife is good to go with the vasectomy, then I'd tell him to do it. It's quite liberating.

For her to go on the pill means that if at a later date they do want children again she just stops.
A vasectomy...while it can be reversed....is not so easy.
And in the future if he wants to have a baby with another woman it will be a big problem.
A vasectomy does no harm. Some think it makes you less of a man but of course that is wrong. You only loose the ability to father again. The sex drive never goes away. In fact it may increase because you no longer have to worry about birth control.
And no more condoms. That I loved.
If he knows in his own mind that there will never ever be children again for any reason then the vasectomy is the most sure way to go. The pill is fine but relies on her remembering to take them.
He has to remember none of us knows the future. If he marries again and can't have children it may not be fair to that second wife.

No. There are many side effects from the pill, especially if his wife is over 35 and/or a smoker. A vasectomy is realatively painless and a permanent solution. It is nothing compared to being pregnant for 9 months, going through labor and pushing a 19 inch head out of you!!!

Birth control is not the best method for some women to be on. There may be something behind this couples thinking. So I would let them decide. There is nothing wrong with having a vasectomy. It doesn't make you less of a man. If anything it means you are a loving responisble adult who knows he and his wife have enough responsibilty with what they have now and dont need any slip ups.

Well, it depends. Some women gain a lot of weight on birth control (although not many on the pill) and some women hate taking pills, and to ask them to do that everyday is a lot. He should know though that it sometimes takes up to 2 months before there is no longer any sperm in the semen, and also that sometimes after having a vasectomy, the 'snip' can reconnect and send sperm once again swimming into the semen

I had a vasectomy after my second child. It hurts, but isn't too bad. If he has the number of children he wants then I say go for it. The wife taking the pill is great to control when to have a child, but not to prevent any more children.

Nothing is 100%. A vasectomy is usaully no problem. Uncomfortable for a week or so but that's it. The pill and BC patches can have side affects. A lot of women gain weight, break out, etc. He and his wife should discuss what they think is the best option for them.

The pill is pretty messy with hormones, the vasectomy is quick, RELATIVELY painless, but over before you know it. It's really the best gift a husband can give his wife. Plus, the guy gets to take a day off work nursing a cold beer in his lap! ;)

Vasectomies are now outpatient procedures that aren't as invasive as they were a generation ago. It's a lot easier in the long run than putting your wife on a long-term hormone pill that introduces health risks...
...besides, the Pill would only work for HER, not everyone you have sex with... :-P
*I'm just sayin...
