I guess it really all started when I was 3 years old on a playground.....

I know, it annoys me too. I guess people think that a longer answer must equal a better answer.

That really depends on what kind of question you are asking. I mean if you ask a question that could cause someone to feel obligated to provide a never ending slew of personal information, that by default is only sparsely related to the answer, perhaps you have only yourself to blame. On the other hand if the question is direct, concise, and otherwise constructed so that an answer might be provided without undue verbiage, perchance you might find the answer more amenable to your attention span. For instance, beginning the string of words, that don't actually constitute a sentence, with the cluster of words, which are unbound by any sort of punctuation or capitalization, "why do people think", is an open invitation to a lengthy dissertation of the answerer's thoughts. In traditional communication, business communication, technical communication, and any form of communication that can not be accomplished with the exclusive use of one's thumbs, answering in complete sentences is absolutely correct. The type of people that are capable of providing a germain answer to reasonable question, are the type that would also find themselves inclined to do so in a formal manner. In asking a question, the asker is admitting a fundamental weakness, lack of knowledge, and humbling themselves to those more knowledgable than themselves. So perhaps the question should be, "why am I incapable of accepting the generosity of others?", or better yet, "why, when other people try to help me, do I not understand that they are due the courtesy of my acknowledging their assistance?". The format of computer questions and answers hearkens to the days of Usenet, and is definitely based on the use of complete sentences and full answers.

Or to answer the question in a more condensed format appropriate for a sugar consuming, commercial interruption expecting, youngster with the attention span of a five year old: dunno . . .

If you don't want an explanation don't ask a question that needs one. Moving a cat box. Would you like a yes or no answer to that? Personal experience from others is something they've already gone through so hopefully you won't have to learn things the hard way. If you want short answer put that in your questions.
Short answers only please. You might be amazed at the response.

yeah i dont like a question or an answer that is as long as a novel. but i think that people write long answers wit stories from their life to help support what they're sayin and help explain the way that they think. even though i hate it and think people need to keep it simple sometimes it helps hearing their situation and how it might compare to yours.

I disagree with you. I find most of them very interesting and entertaining with the exception of the smart mouths poor choice of using foul language, but you see a lot of that in the questions too.

Sometimes a simple answer does not do justice to the question. If you are getting long answers to your questions then perhaps you need to pose the question differently.

Well, I don't mind much as long as the answerer is happy. I'm glad that they're able to confide in me and others as well because this is an escape for me and probably for others. It's good to get feelings out.

I understand. Too long=no read. There must be something in between, 'cause some of the long ones are good, but most won't read.

Well then don't ask questions if you don't want to read the answers people want to post to it?! I could say something more positive but I don't want to waist your time in reading a long drawn out story :)
