So the PS3 is out and idiots camp out for days in front of a department stores to be the first to buy it when it gets on the shelves. I see this every Christmas time. If it is not the talking Elmo that dances when you clap, it is some frickn baby that whispers your name back to you or some sh*t like that.
Why do people get so fanatically about something to camp out for days in the cold rain for something to get put on the shelf and to be the first like last night?
You know all they have to do is wait several weeks for it to be restocked or wait until after Christmas or something.....jess people get a life!
Now don't say I am double standard just because I waited for hours in line to watch Star Wars Episode 3 on opening night Tuesday at 12am. That is different...LOL...I waited frickn 20 years for that....LMAO

Well the media and the companies place a lot of emphasis on making it a hot commodity that you have to get now bc it is the best and even though we all realize that they will be sold later for much cheaper, this whole perception is created to make us think that if we dont have it now then we never will and/or that we are missing out. It might also have to do with that whole competition thing that many are preoccupied with where they want to have the best (or at least everything that is better) in comparison to everyone else. I also dated a guy that was obsessed with video games and I think it provided him with this whole coping mechanism where he was able to escape the troubles and bs of his real life by spending hours sucked in playing video games...Whatever reasoning it is, I think that is pretty ridiculous and don't understand why people go into such a frenzy...Oh I just thought of another one..supply and demand...it kind of ties into my other reasoning for this but by limiting the supply (like they do so often around this time of the year) you increase the demand causing people to pay ridiculous amounts of money just to get their hands on the goods...kinda sad but true...

Sorry, I'm not a shrink, just been around the block a few times lol
There are those who will buy the new items on the market, and turn around and sell the items for twice or three times what they gave for them, and make a profit. Some people just like to be first, and there are those who love to have something that someone else doesn't have.
It's a crazy world, It just has to do with a person's priorities, I think.

Might sound funny..but it's tradition!! A lot of stores sell out of things so quick during the X-mas season, and the companies only release a certain amount of things (like the PS3) or new Nintendo, that's so they can jack up the prices and laugh at all the fights being shown on the 10:00 news. This kinda thing cracks me up, I can't wait to go out and watch all the crazy people.

I know re-selling has already been mentioned.....but I'd like to add that I saw a PS3 go for $15,100 this morning on Ebay. It was amazing.....
Could you imagine that kind of profit?
I also saw a guy on the news last night that paid 20 people $200 each to stand in line and buy PS3's for him......if he sold these at an average of just $4000(the bottom end of what they were going for this morning)....he will have made a profit of $64,000....
Blows me away.

It's sickening on sony's part because they have a responsibitlity to their consumers to treat them with respect. under stocking the shelves especially right before christmas is not only cruel its evil. Do you know how many disappointed children will open up their xmas presents to find no ps3. If you (sony) can't meet consumer needs before the holidays, then don't realese it before the holiday. Think of the millions of disappointed children sony! You don't think of them you think of your bottom line and piss on the consumers that have given your evil company billions of dollars over the years. I am personally boycotting all sony products and I recommend others follow. If we allow sony to do this over and over their not going to stop doing it. It is partially our fault for creating the demand, and our only defense is to eliminate the demand. I heard their actually loosing money on the sale of PS3 from a manufactoring stand point. I hope they loose money and all Ps3 have to be recalled and sony goes bankrupt. Screw sony and people who buy a PS3 for supporting this evil corporation.
Peace

well sometimes when some people have the determination to do something, they are fully commited to do it..you know why?
for some people,
1.it is to show off to your frens that you have a particular item first
2.game fanatics wanna lvl up or master a game faster than any one else
3.parents whom really love their kids(they wanna get it for their children as gifts for festive season or birthday)
4. and many other reasons
BUT none of them are idiots, because at least when they are determined to do something, they let it out to the max..this shows that they live with principles..just that it might seem to be applied at a wrong place at a wrong time...but at least they have strong determination..so who cares?!!!
haha

I have also waited my life for a motion-sensor console. That's why I'm waiting overnight for the Wii.
If that Star Wars movie is so important to you that you waited for hours then don't you think the Wii/PS3 is also important to someone? The Wii is important to me and I want to get it fast. I'm willing to give up my weekend to get it, too.

I know many people were planning to try to re-sell them at a profit, so there's an economic motivation.

the problem is that parents of today have this idea that they need to spoil the sh*t out of their kids and give their kids every thing they didn't have when they were growing up and that is so wrong. the kids of today have no respect for their parents for the things their parents work hard for or for any one else.
