I remember this match because I could not even spend a single minute away from the commentary.
As pressurek stated, the captains were Mike Brearley and S. Venkatraghavan.
Beginning the final day at 76 for no loss, India needed to score 438 to win the match outright. After tea, India was 360 for 1 with Gavaskar and Vengsarkar at the crease. And then, Vengsarkar got out. Kapil Dev was promoted up the order (by Venkatraghavan) which till this day I reckon it to be a bad move. Anyhow, Kapil got out for a DUCK and the rest commited hara kari. The only saving grace was Gavaskar's splendid 221 which almost brought victory for India. In the end, the match ended in a draw (because Venkatraghavan played for it) with India needing just 9 more runs for a memorable win.
