what is the difference between a male hamster and a female hamster???

i have heard if you turn the over,you can tell,but are there other ways??

Male/Female?


To sex a hamster you need to be able to look at its genitals. This can be done in one of two ways:

Place the hamster on one hand, place your other hand over it's back and turn your hands over so that the hamster is lying on it's back.

Hold the hamster by the scruff of the neck in order to see underneath.

The concept of sexing any species of hamster is the same. The male is more elongated around the rear and more rounded than the female and this is particularly noticeable with Chinese Hamsters.

Looking at the genitals there are two 'vents' - on the male these are the penile opening and the anus, and on the female these are the vagina and the anus. The gap between these two vents on the male is usually 1-2cm apart (Dwarf-Syrian) and on a female the gap is so small that it is difficult to distinguish the two separate vents.

Male mice, rats, gerbils and hamsters all have very noticable testicles. Not so much so when they're very young, but you can still see the "bulge" there. When older, many actually drag them a bit... Females will have no swelling near the tail area, whereas males will always have at least a little swelling near the tail, if not fully visible testicles.

Males are also typically smaller and less "sturdy" than females.

after possessing many hamsters i might could trust people who say men are extra laid returned, in maximum cases. There are continuously exceptions to the norm. in the previous I converted to rats, I remember my male hamsters have been plenty sweeter. I actual have one woman suited now (rescue) and she or he's ok, yet no longer outgoing like the lads have been.

Once you take a look at the underside of a male and a female hamster you will understand....

the male has GIANT testicles, almost as big as his head. If you don't see a huge sack, it's a girl.

if your hamster is old, you can feel for the testicles in a male. " Actually the "urinary hole" and the anus are CLOSER in a female. Also females can have babies. Males stink more, but females go into heat every 4 days.

UH, LETS SEE HERE! the male has testicles and the female does not. if you want to find out the sex of your hamsters ask your vet. or simply leave the two in a cage together. you will find out soon enough :)
