need to buy shoes on line and i'm size seven in UK but the website has american sizes.

7 is a European 41, which shoes usually have marked on them regardless of where you are.
an American 7 is a size smaller than a UK one.
This site shoudl help - translates every shoe size to it's equivalent all over the world!

If you're buying ladies shoes you need to go up 2 sizes (9), but if you're buying mens shoes you only need to go up 1 (8).
Im a UK ladies 8 but take a US ladies 10 and US mens 9!

Its always one size down, so that would be a six, 6.
