I think the minimum is 64mb of RAM. I think you should get at least 512 MB though. Oh and get away from ME ASAP. That is one of the worst versions of windows.

None, don't use Windows ME. Use Windows 2000 or XP. Windows 2000 will work okay with 64MB of memory, but I'd say 256MB to 512MB for 2000 is great. For Windows XP nothing less than 512MB though it will work with 256MB, it'll be slow.
Once again, just stay away from Windows ME. Oh yeah, I should also note that Microsoft has more or less cut support for Windows 2000 though they did just release an update to fix a critical security flaw but only one update.

The bare minimum is probably either 32 or 64 MB. However, I would reccomend at least 256 or 512 MB if you want decent performance.
Also, upgrading to Windows XP would help your computer's performance alot. Win ME is notoriously unstable and buggy.

To be honest
better stay away with ME. If for some reason you would like to stay with ME then My suggestion is to go for 256 MB ram to experience the best out of ME. Since there is no page file concept explictly in the ME I would suggest you to go for more than 256 Even, If your motherboard supports. I wont Blame ME edition as many others used to do. The difference is in ME you need to maintain the OS most of the time than making use of it. Since Microsoft Come up with concept of Restore Facility Intitally in ME It might appear to be a bit of Trouble for Novice users, but not for experienced one. You know i used ME for 3 years in a row.

i would have atleast 512mb of ram and move to windows xp instead, ME has a lot of bugs and is the most annoying version of windows, if you're after the capabilities of ME, then u should try Window Media Center, you will never regret it

Depends on what you use it for.For simple word processing and e-mail applications, 64 or 128mb is sufficient. If you're into intense gaming, photo or music applications, then the more the better...512mb or more. The more memory you have, the faster your applications will run.
