You turn orange, your hair goes green...
you shrink, and it all falls into your thighs...
you gain a tragic dress sense, and start singing hideous songs.

Omphalitis is the medical term for infection of the umbilical cord stump in the neonatal newborn period. While currently an uncommon source of infection in the newborn in the United States, it has caused significant morbidity and mortality both historically and in areas where health care is less readily available.

Extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO) is present in 20-40% of patients with portal hypertension in India(1,2). EHPVO may be (i) secondary to oomphalitis, umbilical vein catheterization, intraabdominal sepsis and trauma or (ii) idiopathic. Congenital cardiac anomalies have been reported more with EHPVO of idiopathic group than in nonidiopathic group(3). Congenital anomalies reported are atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, mitral valve prolapse, tetralogy of Fallot etc. In our recent analysis of 157 children with EHPVO we had 3 cases with cardiac anomalies.

If you mean "Omphalitis" it is the infection of the umbilical cord stump (from the Greek word "Omphalos" meaning the belly button).
