There is a K before most application names in Fedora. What does it mean and how do you know?

The K prefix means those applications are for the KDE GUI. There are several different GUI's (Graphical user interfaces) you can use with Linux. The most popular two are Gnome and KDE - since they work in slightly different ways, you need different applications for them.

Asthetically, KDE looks a lot like Windows, while Gnome looks more like a Unix/mac interface.

K stands for KDE (a desktop simulator). If you see G (that would stand for Gnome)
