I did what everyone said and tried to create a limited user account for my internet browsing, but i still got a virus on the main account.
Can someone tell me how this is possible?

Even if you live in a sterile box, you can still catch the flu.

Viruses are a reality of modern computing. Keep your firewalls strong and your anti-virus software up-to-date.

People are always inventing new viruses, and updating new ones to get around the virus scanners. Until someone has been infected, nobody knows to write a cure. So there are always viruses getting round the scanners.

Plus, besides viruses, there are spyware programs, trojans, and other type of malware that can attack a PC that virus canners can not block. A virus install itself, and so can be spotted by a scanner. The others are installed by something the user does to give it permission to install (click on something on a web site, install a free program that has the malware hidden inside it, etc.) Virus scanners can not stop those, because the user overrules the scanner and tells it to install the malware.

So hopefully, besides a virus program, you also have a couple of good anti-malware programs (like Ad-aware and Skybot) that you run at least once a week to keep the PC clean of "human errors".

Even if you are a limited user you can get viruses. Talk to the administrator and tell him to install an antivirus program. Here you have some good and free antivirus programs:

You could try the System Restore which takes you back to a time when your computer was working good. Go To:
start
programs
accessories
systems tools
system restore
This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again.

Your antivirus software needs to tell you its name before you can remove it.

for additional precaution disable system restore, delete previous restore points. boot in safe mode and run your antivirus. If the virus name is detected then search using google for removal instructions.
