Roadhouse blues--the Doors. Not only is a classic, but it reminds me of my family. My dad would drive the family to see gramma in his crappy old green some kinda junk-mobile and I just remember all of us screming "LET IT ROLL BABY ROLL!!!" and i didn't really realize what song it was and how much i loved it until years later in high school. and its still my absolute favorite song.

That would have to be Annie's song by John Denver.

You see, there is someone who lives far away (I'm in California and she lives in Minsk, Russia) that I have known for many years. She was my first wife's best friend. We were, my wife Katrine who was at that time my fiancee, her friend Anna, and a number of other people I knew when I was a teen were part of a band form 1979 to 1985. We preformed most weekends, did mostly oldies and standards, and some more contemporary 80's pop pieces. Those were good times, and we thought they woud last forever. So in 1985, just after we were married, my wife died in a car wreck. We were just outside the city of Rangoon in what was then called Burma and is now called Myanmar. We went over a hill and the car lost traction on the muddy dirt road. At the bottom of the hill was a sharp turn. The car flipped, spun and slid about 30 yards before coming to rest. I pulled her out and got her behind a tree just as the car exploded. She died in my arms a few minutes later.

As time went on and the other we knew driften into thier lives, this one person stayed around the longest. Eventually she went home to Russia and became a gymnastics coach. We syated in contact and have seen each other probably more ofthen than we have any of the others.

A couple of years ago, I realized that I had fallen in love with her. So last year, when the band got together I realized that I could no longer keep that information inside. So the last night they were all there, someone broke out the Karaoke machine and we all took our shots. I figured I could use that opportunity to express what I was feeling without making things too awkward by saying anything (I though it would be best if she didn't know). So my first two songs were Secret Love by Freddie Fender and Annie's Song by John Denver.

The next day, at the airport she told me, "If you ASK me to stay, I will." I knew then that she felt the same for me that I did for her. I also understood that I couldn't ask. She has her life coaching Gymnastics. She does quite well. I understood then that I could expect her to give upeverything she had worked so hard for just to take care of me, so all I could say to her was, "You students need you." The watched as she walked down the corridor in the ariport to the boarding gate, knowing that there was little chance our paths would cross again.

IF I didn't love her so much I would not have thought twice about asking her to give up everything for me. Of course IF I didn't love her so much...I would not have wanted her to stay as much as I did...do...you know what I mean...

Anyway...that song...has become a favorite of mine since then...sort of a reminder that I did the right thing...of a time when love was all that was necessary, of a world where hope still existed, and memories that can still bring a smile to my twisted, gnarled face...

Right now, My fav is "Anything but Mine" by Kenny Chesney... I love the song because the lyrics talk about a summer-time romance. Based on the beach. He describes walikng bown the beach at night, hearing the carnival rides, and the bells and whistles from the games off in the distance.
I used to love walking down the Jersey Shore at night, and seeing the light from the Boardwalk, and hearing all the people laughing and having a good time on the rides and games. Feeling the warm breeze coming off the Atlantic. Oh man!

Aside from the wonderful memories it brings back, his guitarist Clayton Mitchell play an awsome guitar solo in the middle.

Great song, even if you dont like country.
