Checking the task manager was a splendid idea, but ...wrong tab.
It shouldn't be under the "applications" tab. This tab refers to programs that you are actively using. (i.e. your antivirus would appear there if you were running a scan yourself).

As this is supposed to run in the background, check the "processes" tab. You will find a number of listed files with the .exe extension. Check whether the list includes files that are part of your antivirus program. (Usually the files' names are similar to that of the software, so it should be easy to spot them).

If you don't find anything relevant there, your antivirus program is simply not running!

One has to install an antivirus. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

It would have helped if you'd mentioned what Anti-Virus you're using , Sir.

However, may I recommend that you kindly download, install and use Advanced Windows Care Personal, free home users' version from http://www.iobit.com/AdvancedWindowsCarePersonal/index.html

It'll give you a lot of one click solutions, Sir; and is compatible with existing Anti-Virus Programs.

Have a nice day.
