Ran - Learn to see each student individually as well as a part of the class team. Remember that different people have different abilities and styles of learning. Laugh with your students at least once a day. Remember that play is a form of learning. Love what you do.

Well since "affect" means to change ones feelings or emotions, then I would say to become an affective teacher you should go in and act completely opposite to how you are feeling untill you really feal that way and then flip the scrip and go the other way...the kids really get into schizo-type teachers.

Now if you want to be an "effective" teacher you need to do several things:
Master your curriculum area: keep learning...the more you know the better you can teach.

Be real with the students: Students don't want a "cool" teacher. They want a teacher that is straight, fair, intelligent, and a master of their subject. You can be a grumpy old a-s-s, but if you are honest and fair and they are learning..they will love you anyway.

Be good at politics: learn the game of the admin and legislature. Know what they want and what they are looking for...do those things up front...because if you are doing those things...then they give you more freedom to pick and choose curriculum materials that actually work...be the silent wheel and they leave you alone to teach.

Finally. Don't bring your personal issues into the class. You own the class and you are in charge. They don't want to know you self-esteem issues or your problems at home. They want you to be up there teaching them, giving them guidance and letting them know they are worth your time...of course they will listen to your stories...they like getting out of work more than anyone, but they don't respect you for it.

Have fun and get a grip on your affect and effect. Your kids will thank you.

Do you mean "affective" or "effective". An affective teacher would primarily address the feelings of his or her students. An effective teacher would teach in a way that had lasting meaning.

Study hard, and learn English for a start. The word you need is effective, not affective. Other than that, study some more!

A great start would be to learn how to spell the word "effective".

Relate to the class in some way -- don't be their friends, but someone they can talk to. Be yourself. Kids sense stress and fear.
