Bake up a fabulous turkey breast and some stuffing on the side with cranberry sauce. Rachel Ray made a fantastic 30 minute thanksgiving meal the other day on her show using turkey breasts. Maybe you can try that? After dinner, crack open a beer and watch the football game!! Don't feel badly, some of us don't want to be forced to talk to our families on Thanksgiving but we're tortured into it. :) I'd give anything to be home on Thanksgiving.

If I was alone for Thanksgiving here is what I would do. I'd volunteer to help serve a Thanksgiving dinner to those in need at a local shelter. If you are religious that is the equivalent of going to the ultimate church. That is the type of church where Christ did most of his work. If you are not it is simply the opportunity to make a difference in someones life, even if only for a day.

Then I would go home and curl up with a glass of Cabernet and a good book, probably Delderfield,s "To Serve Them All My Days" (a really heartwarming story). As I read I would think about how grateful even when we are alone we do not have to ever be lonely.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a way to have a truely wonderful Thanksgiving.

I will celbrate Thanksgiving alone too, because I don't live in the USA anymore. However, I will celebrate the holiday in my heart and go through all the memories that I have.
But I do put up the Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving.
Why are you celebrating Thanksgiving alone, if I may ask?????

You don't have to be alone. There are many places that are offering free Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless or for people that cannot afford to otherwise have a dinner. They could always use more volunteers. You could be the person that someone is "Thankful" for on this Thanksgiving

A lot of churches and community organizations have Thanksgiving suppers for the less fortunate. They are always looking to volunteers to help serve and you'd probably get a real good feeling from helping out.

Sure. I spend it alone just about every year, by choice. If you have a very dysfunctional family as I have, alone is good! I am good to myself. I cook a very nice dinner, treat myself as I would like to be treated by others, lay back, chill with a good book and have some quality ME time. Very, very relaxing and peaceful. Then if you have other single friends who have no plans, invite them over for a T-giving dinner (pot luck). MYTH: Single people are to be pitied being alone at holidays. TRUTH: Love it.

For a couple of years I spent Thanksgiving Day helping serve meals to homeless people. There's nothing like helping others to get you out of yourself, and to make you truly thankful for what you have.

my best suggestion is to not celebrate it alone. i hope that there is at least one person in your life who is not connected to a family on that day. if you can find them, ask them to share with you. keep it simple. if you absolutely cannot find another soul, i'd suggest getting a movie and a special dinner for yourself, or take a walk, write a letter, or call someone who might be missing you. good luck.

I hate forced holidays. Why not treat it like any other day and just do whatever you want? No need to be pressured. There are many people who don't celebrate.

Indulge yourself. I was alone lat year and I made things that I normally don't -- no turkey. I had a great steak with all of the trimmings and I bought a little great cake. It was a really relaxing day.
