I have had ovulation pain, Mittelschmerz, for about 5 years now. That is how I knew I was ovulating. It became an odd comfort to me because I knew when my period was coming based on that. This is the second month in a row where I no longer have it. I should be happy, for sometimes it would be really uncomfortable, but I now have another concern: does this mean I am not ovulating? Although we are not trying to get pregnant, I would like to know that I am ovulating for when we do try.

P.S. I don't use birth control pills. We use calender method for birthcontrol.

Your fertility rate decreases with age. I didn't start ttc until I was 34. I never thought I would have a problem conceiving since my mother had 10 children and all of my sisters have children. Well, after a few months ttc, I went to see my OBGYN. I started charting my daily basal body temperatures to see if and when I was ovulating. Turns out, I don't ovulate regularly. I don't know for sure if this is just due to age, but my OB told me fertility does decrease with age. He gave me Clomid to help me ovulate. I conceived the first month on it, but had a miscarriage. It took another 9 months to conceive again on it, but I have a healthy baby girl. I am in my 5th month ttc again on it.

I know we are born with a set number of eggs, but I highly doubt you have run out this early. However, you might not be ovulating every month now. That doesn't mean you can't get pregnant, but you might have a harder time. I wouldn't worry about it just yet if you aren't ttc because stress can interfere with conception. Try to keep track of your cycles so you have some history to discuss with your OB if/when you decide to start ttc. I don't believe in ttc for a year before seeing a Dr., especially if you are in your 30's. Time is precious.

You don't say how old you are. I also suffered from Mittelshcmerz syndrome. Sometimes the pain would be worse then others. Some months I wouldn't have it. I don't think it necessarily means you aren't ovulating.
