They don't know they might be in danger. They are acting on instinct. It probably has to do with survival of the species. Check these links. Lots of information on ants.

Tremendous scientific study has shown that all ants have a latent desire to be sprayed with pesticide. After having learned that biting a human who is is possession of a can of pesticide that said human will be most prone to spraying them, they have started biting these humans.

This desire is not spawned by some foolish death wish, but with the knowledge that there is no way humanity will ever kill every ant, and that by being sprayed over and over they will slowly develop an immunity to all known pesticides. After this, their ultimate goal of taking over and controlling the world will come to fruition, because mankind also sprays one another with: bombs, bullets, napalm, etc, and interestingly, no one has developed an immunity to these, not even an ant.

I believe they will only bite if you have scratch them by accident ( i.e felt something tinklish on your arm and scratch it) and if you step on them, if I was an ant you can be jolly sure I would bite just as hard as them lol.

Ants or any other wild creature will do what comes naturally Its instinct. Ants have no idea we can kill them just that we are doing something that irritates them.

They lack opposable thumbs and it makes it hard for them to hold the can and spray you back. This is also why you never see them open a jar of peanut butter. Hence, they resort to biting.

I don't think they're mentally capable of KNOWING we'll spray them with pesticide.. and if they do then they're all masochists.. but in general i think ants bite anything and everything.. *cheers*
