To begin with, Winston keeps a journal, which is strictly forbidden. Secondly, he has thoughts against the government and wants a change in rule. He isn't truly loyal to the party. As time goes on, Winston starts investigating suspicious events and uncovers some cover-ups by the party. When he meets his love interest, they wander through the prole section, they love each other and sometimes have sex. Winston also bought objects from the past in a prole store. Having material possessions from the past is strictly forbidden. On top of that, Winston also rented a room above the prole store.
