I forgot to add in a transaction, and bounced a check for $10.46. It was promptly redeposited, and cleared with no problems. I am now being sent letters that a $30.00 "returned check fee" is being electroniaclly debited from my account without my consent. Do I have a legal obligation to pay this even though the check was redeposited successfully?

What I am basically asking is if they can dratft my account without my permission. I did not think they could.

You should read the fine print on your banking agreement. It's probably all right there. If you think it's illegal, call Ohio's department of consumer affairs, or banking commission, or secretary of state, or whatever appropriate office you can think of - they can tell you whether it's legal in Ohio or not.

My guess is it's legal. Why would you think otherwise?

Yes, you have a legal obligation to pay the bank fee. It did not clear the first time, therefore it bounced. It doesn't matter if it went through the second time, it bounced the first time so you owe them a fee.
