I don't think you really need anything else. The purpose of makeup is to enhance, and if a little eyeshadow is all you need, then great. You're already feeling overdressed wearing makeup, so if you wear more, you're going to feel really uncomfortable. A little enhancement is great; too much and you'll feel too conspicuous.
However...if you'd like to wear more at some point and want to learn how to apply it, then you can see a makeup consultant and learn the proper technique for applying makeup, and learn how much is enough for enhancement, without looking trashy.

Perhaps you need to not put any colours on your eyes? Start with a light base of foundation (or tinted moisturiser if you have good skin). A dust of translucent powder on top. Some blush on the apples of your cheeks (choose the colour your cheeks go when you have been out in the cold). Put some black or brown mascara on your eyes and some neutral lip gloss on your lips - then you won't feel overdressed but still look great.

You don't need to wear a lot of make up.
Why don't you try a cream eyeshadow in a soft colour. Try a pale pink, peach or beige. Keep it light and just go up to your socket line. Try a little natural light brown liner if you want to define your upper lash line and blend it well. A sweep of soft coloured blusher and a little brown mascara and you will be made up but not overdressed.
If you feel mascara is too much try smoothing a little vasaline on your lashes to define them. This also makes them really soft and conditioned.

I rarely use anything on my eyes except mascara otherwise all I use is foundation blusher and some tinted lip gloss. How come you feel overdressed? Are you new to wearing make-up? You will get used to it just dont cake it on. Why not go to a make-up counter in a department store they will do your make-up for you for free.

I'm not some crazy freak incase you were worried. If you had a pic I could help further. You don't have to send me it - maybe you have a profile somewhere - or a myspace I could look at and see where we are at.
You're call. :D
Make up should be assessed on a case by case basis. A lot of factors come into play. A persons age, shape of their eyes, skin tone (this is key), overall style.
I want to help the best I can so let me know sista! ^_^

it is said that: "It is worth noting that people should complement you on your beautiful eyes, not your eye make-up"
but saying that, people wear a lot more make up for a night out than they would in the day- so if you have spent ages artistically doing amazing eye make-up i think its OK to get a compliment on your eye make up.
Wear subtle colours as you say you do, and mascara, maybe a touch of eye-liner...then when you go out at night transform! have dramatic eye make up etc to compliment your outfit. But do practice and experiment first, don't leave til the last minute! get a hair and beauty magazine and look at the make-up on the models to get ideas, they usually write make-up tip articles as well.
You are right not to over-do make up for day-to day wear, its not a good move wearing inch-thick foundation and sparkly eye make up for work!
happy make-upping!

If you want to use more keep to subtle light make-up!
Find advice from any good beauty salon!
Do you feel you need more? If it makes you feel uncomfortable why bother anyway. Its not against the law to go without. Most males prefer the natural look (At least they can see what you truely look like)
Be yourself dont follow the crowd!!!
