Cord mediated...(Simple reflex, no learning) ...Any reflex test ie knee, elbow etc.
Somatic...(Complex, learned) ..Wihdrawing from heat rapidy, salivating at the smell of dinner cooking.

Hi. One cord based would be the reflex action of a strike to the knee. One brain based somatic reflex would be pulling your hand from a hot stove.

A cord mediated reflex is typical reflex arc involving locomotion or a pain response eg bee sting.

A sudden image apearing in ones peripheral field of vision would lead to saccadic eye response using the superior colliculus.

Also if you suffer from travel sickness its due to your brain geting confused. i.e moving visual scene but in approprite inner ear organ reports. This leads to a reflex of the vagal nerve leading to gut to make you sick !!
