Why has it been 6 years since you last saw your daughter? Was she taken away from you for some reason, such as your going to jail? The best gift you can give your daughter is yourself- your time and attention. You don't need to buy her anything- she already has all the material things she needs. Instead of getting her a gift, why don't you plan some sort of special outing for her, away from campus, but with you and your husband ( who I assume is your daughter's new stepdad) so you can all get reacquainted and catch up on each other's lives? 6 years is very long time to be away from any child- and don't be too surprised if she acts as though she barely remembers you. After all, she was only about 4 or 5 when you were separated, so I wouldn't expect her to remember very much, or to act as though she's close to you. I would take your daughter out to eat somewhere, and then maybe go to a local park, weather permitting, and just stroll or sit and talk. You can ask her about school, about her friends, about her music and dancing ( since she enjoys that so much, I'm sure she will be happy to tell you all about that) and maybe even ask her to show you a few of the dance moves she's learned. Tell her about your own life and what you have been doing over the last 6 years, and introduce her to your husband and let them get to know one another. Ask your daughter what she wants to do when she gets older- that's always a great conversation starter. The point is to give your little girl as much of your time and undivided attention as you can. You don't need to buy her expensive presents- she probably already gets enough of those. What you need to do is let her know that you are her mom and that you will always be there for her if she needs you for anything. That doesn't require money- it requires caring and love. Loyalty is won through acts of patience and trust, and planning a special time alone with your daughter is a great way to start this process. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

You can always try to find out what kinds of music, they like. And movies, for that matter, and get them their favorite music, or a movie or two, they really wanted or haven't seen yet.. Or, if they like jewelry, you could go and get them their birthstones, set on a pretty necklace, or bracelet set.. Then you have all the latest games. For either a "Game-Cube" or, " an X-Box" you could get them games, for the player... Then if their allowed to where make-up, you could buy them some good expensive facial cleaner. Like Prolactive, I think its called, or some pretty perfume, thats their favorite, girly types.. Purses, are always a "Winner" with preteens, and teens.. There too old for toys of sorts, but their not to old for "Crafts".... You could get them both some nice sets of needle point, with really cool pictures on them. Posters are always a winner, with teens... I hope I was of some help... Good-Luck, to you.. I have a 12 year old daughter myself, so I know what she likes. This year I bought her a guitar, because she wanted one, so bad, and I'll probably be getting her & her brother a VCR/DVD player, to go with the movies I bought them... Have fun shopping!!! Smile! It'll all be over soon enough.. HaHa!

You might want to try a gift basket of nail products, hair products, etc.. something fun but ok with their parents. Also you could make a date with them (one at a time) to enjoy a manicure or pedicure. Not only would you both enjoy it but you might find out new things about them to help for next time.

Go to Claires Boutique, its a chain store in most malls. It is a store that seems built for "tweens". They carry jewelry, bath and body. accessories, and tween toys.

Bracelet making kits! Craft making supplies. At this age, girls are so creative... they need some way to express that creativity.
