Where should I go and what should I have? Is a park a good place?

Hi. The Leonids will rise in the East and be faint this year. Central park's west side might be your best shot. Make sure to bring some friends!

That's going to be a tough one. There's so much light polution there.
You need to get to a place with a relatively unobstructed view toward the east where the sky is as dark as possible and start looking that way after midnight. With all the glow in the sky around NYC, you may see only one or two an hour if you're lucky.

You need to go from the city to a darker location, telescopes and binoculars are useless, you need to look at the eastern horizon in the direction of the constellation LEO, early early morning is the best time to view, SAT & SUN.
