I cannot stand the weather in England. It keeps me down in the dumps. Is it possible that it is only due to the weather or maybe there is something more to it?

YES it is a recognisesed illness called SAD it is a result of less sun light when natural light enters your eyes it helps your body produce endorfins and seritonin theses are happy chemicals in you brain as a result of less sun light in winter you produce less of these chemicals.

Now what could be wrong with our beautiful English weather.

We don't have hurricanes or tornadoes like the USA
We don't have the stifling heat of South America.
We don't have the monsoons of India and Bangladesh.

Our weather is wonderful, and if you don't like it, well, if you just hang on for a minute, it will change:)

Seriously, you could be suffering from what is known as 'Seasonal Affective Disorder.' - It is not actually the weather that causes it; - it is the shorter daylight hours, which leads to insufficient production of a chemical called 'Serotonin' in the brain. (Serotonin makes you happy).

Try sitting in the early morning daylight, or go onto the net and get yourself a supplement called 'Tryptophan'. - this turns into a chemical called 5-hydroxytryptamine in the brain, which is then turned into Serotonin.

It's a very real problem and you should seek medical help with it. There are solutions out there.

Good luck.

The lower the air pressure, the less oxygen is forced through our systems and consequently less reaches our brain so we feel less alert. Also studies have shown that the lower the air pressure, the lower our blood sugar becomes which also reduces our energy levels. We experience a lot of low barometric pressure in UK during winter which makes us feel more listless than on sunny summer days.

Sorry but I've no idea about your state of mind...& I've no magic powers that enable me to change the English weather.

It’s up to you to decide if you want to live here - only you can make that choice.

PS Of course, it could be SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) as others have said - you can buy a lightbox to help this.

It's very common. I forget the name of it, but it's basically seasonal depression.

This happened to a friend I know who moved to England from America, she was very depressed for over a year! It passes...
