I live in a pretty exclusive Republican neighborhood between the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Beverly Hills of California.

We have the Del Amo mall where you are priveledged to pay $2,000.00 for a simple chess set.

In the middle of the mall there is a military recruiting office, but it is alwyas dark inside, with nobody inside.

It appears to always be closed.

Military recruiters are roaming the high schools of poorer neighborhoods, enticing young Americans to "See the world".

What the heck is going on?

Aren't the rich Republicans interested in protecting America anymore by joining the military and doing their part?

Did their huge tax cuts make them feel like they don't have to physically support America's noble cause?

Do they feel that they can sit home, eat their bon bons, watch soaps on T.V. and make baby after baby in the evenings?

Don't the Republicans believe in supporting our troops or are they just loud mouthed wind bags?

It's called "drafting the poor." Rich people don't want to lose their sons and daughters but they don't care about the lives of the poorer masses. Just look at Bush and Cheney. Cheney got 5 military deferments, and Bush still has a full year of his military service totally unaccountable for. Furthermore, Bush's Daddy fixed it so Bush would not have to go to Vietnam, and that was in the days when the draft was in place. The only rich people you'll ever see in combat are in the movies.

A lot of recruiting offices are closed except by appointment. I have two by my house, one is only for the marines and they are always open. The other is a joint building and they are by appointment only. Since we have had a large increase in the number of people joining, most recruiting offices do not need to stay open. In fact the only reason why the marines are still there every day is because they host daily Physical training, and weekly community lectures.

Now I am considered Republican, because that I how I often vote. I am not rich, in fact last year I was considered "poverty level" and was eligible to receive food stamps. I am currently paying for my own college and when I am finished, I would like to military, not because I am "under privileged" but because it is my duty to my country.

I also am going to a college that cost around $30,000 a year for tuition. So am surrounded by what you are referring to a "rich people" and "republican". A number of them have left school to join the military or have joined up immediately after graduating. I find a number of your questions/statements to be quite offensive and seemingly uneducated.

No, it relatively is no longer non violent demonstration. yet bear in mind, it relatively is no longer in effortless terms the left wing who's against the Iraq conflict - a rather good variety of persons on the main appropriate are too. And the severe suitable wing are people who've a tendency to blow issues up - have you ever forgotten Oklahoma city? in spite of the undeniable fact that, even nonetheless i think of we would desire to continuously pull out of Iraq and not would desire to have long previous there in the 1st place, i think of everyone who blows up / burns / vandalizes recruiting stations would desire to stand finished prosecution for his or her movements. those movements injury your reason - everyone who would try this is carefully irrational and stupid. It hurts the anti-conflict reason plenty that's incredibly much plausible that it would be a pretend-flag operation, kinda like the riots the FBI and CIA incited for the duration of Vietnam.

Well you know what. It kinda of goes back to what KERRY got in so much crap for saying. I DO NOT AGREE THAT HE SAID THAT BUT ...Think about it poorer kids that tend to be less educated because of inter city schools and not having the benefits of going to college and a Good future tend to go into the military more. They go for the money and education whereas alot of rich kids tend more on already having there life's plans set for them or more opportunities at a younger age to at least be able to think about what they want to do because they don`t have alot of the worries that poorer kids do. This is where I don`t agree with KERRY because just because they are poorer kids (not trying to contradict myself but) doesn`t mean they are stupid. Boot camp and the schooling the military provides can bring alot of knowledge.

Once again, another misunderstanding of the facts of the military.

Middle class, upper middle class, and upper class individuals go into the military at a higher ratio than there statistical presence in the general population.

The majority of your "rich kids" go in as officers after they receive their college degree. Enlistment offices like the one you mention are for enlisted personnel.

Generally speaking the military offers an opportunity and well respect many from richer areas already have that.

WV is an example of this poorest state in the Union but highest percent of volunteers per capita, no opportunity meets an opportunity and there you have it.

How can you take an experience from one small city and base a national policy on your observations. Facts:

The average net worth of a Democrat is higher than that of the average Republican.

.10% of Americans have a child in Iraq. 2.8% of Repulicans in congress have a child in Iraq

78% of the parents in Iraq voted for Bush...twice

Your attempts to spur class warfare based on false information without regard to facts is highly moronic.

Because the rich can afford to send their children to college.
The poor can't so they go and let Uncle Sam take care of them with the promise of paying for their education if they risk their lives for a Republican war cause. Some die while on duty in combat so no education for them.Others get paralyzed or diseased for life so they never reach their life goal.

Quit whining. Most military offices are by appointment only. I see them empty all the time in some poorer neighborhoods.

The people who sign up do so of free choice. So do the ones who do not.
