It mainly depends on what they model. Usually, stylyst request tall models for runway, as clothes look better on tall girls. Models for photo-work [print, catalogue, art] do not need to be that tall.
There does also exist a category of models named 'petite models', and they're not tall at all; in fact, they're short. It's possible to be a model even if 5'6" [which is my current height]; sure, you probably won't do any runway for Dolce&Gabbana, CK or those big names [not impossible, tho] but the answer is: No, models do not have to be tall all the time.

u have persons who do petite modelling who are 5'6 to 5'9 but for the most part supermodells look like basket ball players. the girl eve that won top model some years ago i think 2004, i dont think she was taller than 5'7. are u aspiring to be a model?

yes, in general. The height and long legs are a added plus to modeling. 5'7 to 5'10 in the most wanted height.

Models don't HAVE to be tall, but the fashion industry prefers tall, thin models. They want the women to resemble the coat hanger the clothers are placed on. Most models are between 5'7 and 6'0 and weigh about ofen weigh less than 125 punds.

If they're going to do high fashion/runway they're five nine and up. Those are pagents that you mentioned though; not all of those girls are models.
