Yes it does! Im off answering the phones tonight taking pledges and every penny goes to the charity, no-body gets paid a thing for anything they do. If you sit and watch for an hour tonight, it'll show some clips from previous years - starting with a clip of the suffering of a child and a 'look at how your money went to help them' kind of clip to finish. Seeing those makes giving just a few pence or a quid worthwhile because then you KNOW your money really does help.

I'm sure it makes a difference to some people but I would prefer that the BBC donate the money from their massive profits.
Even better - lets let them have adverts for one night only - then they can donate the revenue to the charity. I'm sure that ad space during the news and Eastenders would take them over a million and the rest of the day would add lots to that balance.
As a tax payer I've already given to the government to sort these problems out - if these governments had done their jobs correctly there wouldn't be a need for nights like tonight.
Lets have a public list of how many of the performers tonight claim expenses or charge for their services too.
Once again, the GREAT British public must find the solutions to their governments problems.

Yes absolutely. I work for an organisation that supports local community groups. Every year a lot of those groups apply for children in need money to help run thier projects. Without the funding from places like CIN they wouldn't be able to provide half of the support projects they do.

take a second to look at world... and notice that even though we are westeners we have more riches in our everyday life than people in the far Eastern countries... clean water, plumbing and just general day to day living is easy for us... even our tramps get more money than them.
So YES Children in Need is an important fund raising event (even though it gets a bit manotinous year after year)
I dont know if you have ever travelled but if you get the opportunity DO IT... it will open your eyes that every person in the world wants one thing to live a good live and unfortunately children literally dye before they have a chance NOT because of where they live but because the world has 'forgotten them'

The reason why it is having to be done year after year is that the government of this country is not interested in helping the organisations which are helped by Children in Need

Good question,I do not understand how children are so desperate. My husband was out of work for 10 years we managed
to feed, clothe & buy them presents it was hard yet we managed.
There is loads of charities for children at christmas I always give
in the north east they ask you to buy presents then social services give them out.So we need these charities to make sure all children have a lovely christmas. You cannot put a price on a childs smile.

The problem is that the Government use charity funding as a way of shirking its own financial responsibility. ie: Our local childrens hospital has a very active fund raising program - so much so that they hardly receive any funding at all from the goverment now. It begs the question of just WHAT is the government doing with all our taxes?

I think about just your question each time it comes round, but the annoying thing is year on year they always want more and more money. What do all the 'star' guests give other than their time. If a few more of them put their hands in their pockets it might give us 'ordinary' folk the ones that usually fund all these things, a break!
