Power of authority goes to some people's heads. They are constantly trying to find an audience that they can boss. Most of these miserable creatures never understand the true meaning of being a manager or supervisor. You don't have to be a jerk to be an effective manager. You have to be empathetic to your people -supervisors who boss can not do this. I have noticed in my 40+ years of working at different places that the boss is generally hated, and the good supervisor is generally adored. The good ones always (without exception) got better results. Good supervisors are not necessarily nice guys - they have to spoon out discipline - but they do their job without dumping on their employees unlike a boss. By the way, I no longer use the term boss - it has a negative connotation.

People are promoted to their level of incompetence -- the Peter Principle.
Unfortunately, there are people who are nothing more than power hungry, and there are organizations that do not understand what competencies should be required of someone in a management role.
Also, absolute power corrupts absolutely. The bosses who are scumbags now as bosses were probably not too pleasant as underlings either.

Because their self esteem is very low so when they are in a 'boss' position it gives them the power that they need in order to build up their self esteem

It takes a lot of hard work and butt-kissing to be a scumbag, so they've earned the right. (I guess)

Power goes to their heads? And some employees are lazy. You have to be on their @ss to get any work down. Some are even on this site while they are supposed to be working. Imagine that.

cause some bosses like to be in control, usually from past experience. say if they never really been in control then they take advantage of their authourity or they've always been in control and really used to it cause they find too much pleasure in doing so.

They have a large problem with inadequacy. Having a "position" allows them to vent on others that they perceive to be better,smarter,etc.,:-(=
