Culture is everywhere. Maybe not the culture you were accustomed to in NYC, but culture. Try the local historical society, for openers; they will know what is most fascinating in the local history, and that will get you started. Check out the local buildings and monuments and institutions by using the tourist bureau -- new residents are as welcome as tourists, if not more. Go to the local museums.
Read the paper for events like concerts, plays, symphony; if they are not in the town you are living in, they are probably in the nearest large city. American cities all have their own charm and culture, including the intelligent, well-read and interesting people wherever you are. They are not all in New York, by any means. In fact, in Florida you have a strong component of former New Yorkers in the people who used to go there for vacations, and now live there permanently. These are older, more experienced, and more competent people who will keep up culture for their own reasons, enriching their environment.

Enjoy the local culture.. after all the meaning of culture is varied depending on where you are. Take a trip to the local markets or check out the beach life. That's culture! It's everywhere around you my friend! lol (Maybe not quite so entertaining as one might find in nyc... but if you want excitement.. go to the Bahamas!!!! haha)

I also moved here from Long Island, so its understandable. Try Sarasota, the whole area, Ringling museum, Van Wezel, Children's circus, Selby Gardens. Every where you go, look, architect, dine. Sometimes I go for the day, live about, 1:15 Min's away. Works wonders!!!!!!
