You are at a time in your life when you need to realize that you are an adult. While pleasing your family is something that is important, you have to realize that the decisions you are making will affect you for the rest of your life. If you are not happy studying in your current field, do you think that you will happy working in it? Probably not.

You need to sit down with your family members and explain to them that you value their opinions and are aware that the only want what's best for you, but in this instance this is not the best route for you and you are not happy. Make sure when you sit down and speak with them that you have an alternative plan of study already mapped out, including job prospects, what the program entails, etc. This will help you argument and it will also help them to see that you are truly serious and have thought this through. Your ability to plan things through will show them that you are capable of making your own decisions, educated ones that you have thought out.

It is your life, you can't please everyone all them time. There are times when you have to do what makes you happy.

If they are paying and become upset and refuse to pay any longer, you may want to think about alternative ways to pay for your tuition.

Good luck and I hope everything works out for you!

You need to present your family with the argument that you are not happy with the program you are currently enrolled in. They may threaten to terminate any money that they are shelling out, but you can always apply for financial aid and switch to a program that you will be happy with. Remember - YOU are the one who is going to have to live with it for the rest of your life... why let someone else determine your future? Take a stand...

Good luck!
