I live a nice life, I am single, low income, live with parents (baring in mind I am nealy 30).
I have never asked for benefits or help from the government, eventhough I am on low income. There is no way that I canafford house prices (even a crap area)!
I am thinking of becoming a heroin addict, single Mum with loads of kids by different fathers so I can reap all the benefits, a house and a nice lump sum of money for taking heroin! And never have to work again and live off tax payers money for the rest of my days.

Seriously though, do you have to be like that to get any help from 'genuine' people who need it?

i feel the same and i'm 23.

I'm living with the in-laws to try a pay off student debts and to scrape the money together so we can afford to rent our own place again.

i saw in the papers the other day a father with 15, yes that's 15 children and two on the way (one with the wife and one with the mistress) and they are all on benefit. last year he received over £26,000 in benefits and he has a council house.

Why not give to council houses to the people who need a hand on to the property ladder, people who want to support themselves.

It's a sad fact that children as young as 12 now see having babies and living off benefits as a career choice.

U said u have a nice life - then why spoil it with chaos which u described. Most of us struggle to afford to by house or a flat this is not to do with single mums and heroin addicts but with greed which was encouraged by the government. It is no life living on benefits - i know some people who did.
What kind of help do you really want ? Help with buying a home? No one on low income anywhere in the world can buy a home. Try for a better job or a college.
Good luck

1stly there are genuine cases out there that need help .... while i agree the system sucks and people do take the piss not everyone does ... personally i think that if the government needs to open its eyes as it does need a complete overhaul ....
i would just like to point out i didn't become a single mother by choice ....and i am sure there are a lot of women/men who didn't choose to become single parents either ... u have made a sweeping statement and have judged everyone by the same standards .... I would also like to point out i work to support my family i always have and always will do ...
I am not sure what the answer to your question would be i genuinely feel for u and your situation it sucks ... house prices.. rent etc are all ridiculously high ...i can understand your anger as i feel the same ... when i hear about couples having more kids and they are not working or another teen pregnancy ... i feel like whats the point ? why the hell am i working to support these people !! Its very disheartening .....would interesting to see other peoples answers !!

I wish the government read about things like this that are posted in blogs and in yahoo answers every single day.
I myself have low income, as does my partner. We just about afforded our own TINY flat but money is so tight for us and we look at people getting over £20,000 a year from the government and it doesn't seem fair. They should be ashamed of themselves, we work SO hard, every day of the week and we scrimp and save just to make ends meet. I totally agree with you.
They should be given a home for a set period if they have children, up until the kid is of school age. Then they should be told to get a job so they can support their OWN child and themselves and rent a flat. The country would be so much better economically, and we could use money to help those who REALLY need it!

I'm more than certain that if I'd had numerous children by various different men (who incidentally,I probably didn't actually know,so ergo I cannot get child support payments from them),was able bodied but chose not to work because I was too busy whoring around, and drank like a fish whilst doing drugs would mean that I'd be quids in!
Alas,I am too sensible, would rather concentrate on my child and be compus mentus while I take care of her and set a good example, and though I like the odd drink,I have no interest in ingesting or injecting drugs. I'm such a loser...

Wow, there are alot of genuine people out there you know!! Iam a single mother, through no choice of my own he just had enough!! I work part-time in a hospital so I do receive benefits. I rent a house (not council) and I get help with that.... Reaping the benefits is not how I see it. Iam permanently tired and its bloody hard to have and keep a relationship with someone when you have 2 small kids. You are young free and single.. Go get a higher payed job......travel.......rent somewhere with some friends....... Yes it is tough but dont go assuming those of us that have not got it so great are sitting on our back sides enjoying money!!!!!!!

I still think you havve a better life than the person you described above . . I am in a similar situation, my income isn't big enough (ie £50k+) to get a mortgage to afford anything in my area.

Why don't they build more houses, or refurbish the abandoned ones, that'll bring the price down.

Plus, make it much more expensive to have more than one home, it's the multiple property owners that are creating the demand that forces the price up

You can get help without feeling sorry for your self and becoming an addict. People who dont ask dont get.

Go and ask. There will definetly be a benefit out there for you if you seriously need it. Labour are in power.
