Mimi the cat in Brazil has been mating with a local stray dog and has given birth to 3 cat like kittens which died and 3 puppy like kittens which so far are doing fine. Which would you prefer as a pet and what should they be called: Cogs, Dats, Cags, Dots or other suggestions?

The picture is in todays Daily Mail newspaper (England) of 17/11/06, she looks really happy, proud and like she's been round the block a few times too!
The pups look, well, odd...

The Daily Mail isn't the National Enquirer or a made up stories newspaper, they sent their science correspondent, it's for real, there have been several possible alternative explanations, DNA tests are being done now.

If evolutionary theory is correct and Man came from primates and all life has common ancestors it must be possible for mutations to jump species even if only v. rarely, now we can map DNA it will be established whether this has happened, as in lion and tiger, donkey/house crosses or if it's a hoax.

I agree, don't believe it at all. Cats & dogs just aren't compatible in that way.

Though, Rico (a snow Bengal) did try to get jiggy with Tilly before he was neutered ... so what you might think ... but Tilly is an Irish Setter!

The technical bit is that male cats have backward pointing spines on their 'equipment' - it is this that causes the Queens to shriek out as the Toms pull out & the Queen only ovulates after being 'raked' by the spines. Male dogs do not have spines on their equipment & so, even if compatible, would not cause an egg to move into the correct place for fertilisation.

Would be interesting if they could though! If it had happened here then the results would probably have been spotted so they would have had to be called 'Dots' & the babies would probably have been little "Kippies'.

This is completely false, If you look at the dogs in the photos they look absolutely nothing like the cat, and have no resemblance what so ever. They didn't even run any tests yet to verify mother is related. You can tell this is false. The people just made it up to get attention and you can very well tell they got it.

This is crazy! Those babies look like puppies because they ARE puppies! It is rather common for a mother animal to nurse another type of baby. I can't believe anyone would believe this! Of course the officials are checking it out and testing the blood to prove what they are. Just wait and see, the proof will come!

Dogs and cats can't make babies together, hate to break it to you. Maybe Mimi the cat just had some butt ugly kittens. ;)

I hate to break it to you...but the Weekly World News routinely prints "news stories" that are fabricated.
