I have placed moth balls in my attic to fend off squirrels, but I can smell them. Its not strong, just a small hint of mothness in the air. Just wanted to know if I will need to take them out or will the smell fade away.

The smell will fade, but in the future, maybe you should try "cedar mothballs". I've used them many times for my boats and trailer. It smells a lot nicer than traditional mothballs.

The moth ball smell will fade away, but when it does, of course it will no longer repel squirrels. You probably will need to renew the chemical warfare periodically. And any clothes you take out of there will need to be aired out, preferably out of doors, before you can wear them.
