For a reading report, you should be reading about it, and reporting on what you find in the reading you do of RELIABLE sources. At the very least, try an encyclopedia. There are also tons of books and free web resources!
Use beat culture or beat generation when you conduct your search.

Beat culture was writers, mostly from New York, who thought against the mainstream culture of the time. They are really the predecessors to the hippies. Alan Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, etc.

the beat culture was the start of what we now call "rap music" it was dominated by west coast surfers that were looking for music inspired by thier experiences surfing. the change from white surfer music to modern rap happened when surfers gave up on the beat culture in the early 60's
