In a single series, the credit goes to
Wally Hammond - 905 runs at 113.12 in 1928-29 in Australia.

In England, David Gower scored 732 runs at 81.33 in 1985.

The highest aggregate (all Ashes tests) is with Jack Hobbs - 3636 runs @ 54.26
