that is no longer true. while in the city, there are so many hiding places and a higher population, it makes it harder to find the losers that are doing the crimes, but it also makes it harder to say exactly WHO are the criminals. can't just say one person out of 1million did it.
Suburban towns are now subject to home evasions, which is note likely to happen in suburbia, than in the city!!

It wasn't always that way.
Speaking solely of NY and Boston, in the 1800s and early 1900s, the innermost part of the city was (if possible) poorer and less sanitary than today. There was no Welfare, and no widespread public relief. The people comprised immigrants from all over Europe, many of whom hated each other. Yet, there were fewer instances of violence ("Gangs of New York" notwithstanding), particularly gun violence.
I think it's obvious that the reason for the horrific increase in gun violence is, of course, TV. What else could it be, anyway?
