Yes. Ever since Jordan retired in '98, the East has been considered second-fiddle to the West. Sure, the AllStar games might belong to the East sometimes, but in team depth and records the West prevails. Anyway, East = impressive guards, West = dominant big men.
Just look at the playoff records. I saw in some years(probably 02 and 03) that an Eastern team could get to the playoffs even if he has 38 wins. In the West, its always tough to get even to the playoffs with a 40-win record. You have to boost your record to at least 45 to grab the eighth seed.
Let's look at the elite teams. The East today has Miami, Cleveland, New Jersey, and you could make a case for Chicago. The West has the Jazz(although Im sure theyll lose some way), Spurs, Suns, Mavericks, Lakers, Rockets, Hornets, and Clippers.

For as long as I can remember, the West has always had tough teams that had dominating big men. While the East had finesse players and great guards.
The trend continues today with big players like Duncan, Nowitzki, and Ming dominating the West. While swing players like Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Gilbert Arenas highlight the East.
Both conferences play different types of basketball, so I wouldn't say that the East is "slipping back into inferiority." Just take a look at the outcome of last year's NBA All-Star game wherein the East came back from a large deficit to beat the West.
Hope this helps.

The western conference has the majority of good teams but come the NBA finals the eastern conference shows that they have THE best team. as long as the eastern conference keeps winning the NBA Championship, then it don't really matter how many better teams the west has, cause the east keeps winning it all

i think of the East is the extra helpful convention now. seem, the West has the Lakers and a team of death powers. The Mavs, Suns, or maybe Spurs to an quantity are shells of the powerhouses that they have been 2-3 years in the past. New Orleans, Denver, Portland, Houston, and Utah all seem good yet they're too inconsistent. in the East you have the Magic, Celtics, and Cavaliers who might probable be in maximum everybody's actual 5 in the NBA. The Pistons are continuously aggressive, The Sixers are on the improve. enable's settle for it, the East is increasing the and the West is death.

The East will be better then the West in 3-5 years
the east has so many young teams that will emerge and the west just as a bunch of elite veterans.. the spurs, the suns, the mavericks.. all great but also all old and will be dryed out in a couple of years. in 5 years the greatest team in the west will be the lakers because of there young lineup. but the east will have the bobcats, the caviliers, the BULLS!!!!, and a few other young teams. so the east will soon become superior again

I think the West will have more teams with good records, but the best team resides in the Eastern Conference.....and that is the Cleveland Cavaliers.

yes i cannot see any of the teams in the East actually winning the championship this year. all of the playoff teams in the west are very strong however only 2 or 3 in the east can be considered top teams.
