Floppy disc usage is becoming rare. People use CDs instead to store files. I can't think of any advantages right now.

What you call a floppy disc isn't actually a floppy disc. The original floppy discs have disappeared into the dim distant past. The floppy you refer to was invented about 1980, but is pretty well obsolete now. It's only advantage (apart from being dust protection) is it is first choice for booting a PC, so if you have a problem ... umm ... I think, with a 1.4 Mb capacity, it won't help much.

advantages
- portable
- compatible with most (old) computers
- inexpencive
- can be used as a boot device.
- Data can be deleted and over/written (reusability)
disadvantages
- your files can get corrupted easily
- very limited space
- new computers dont even have floppy
I think that the floppy disc is pretty much outdated, since a usb stick can hold many hundred times more files, is way smaller, doesnt easily get damaged and can be used with any computer that has a usb port...
The only practical use for myself is as a boot device...

Many new computers do not come equipped with a floppy drive. They're becoming obsolete. CD hadn't been invented yet when floppies were in wide use. If you have a floppy drive, I suppose having a backup of your data is important, but the next time you upgrade, you won't be able to use it.

Floppy disk are starting slowly to dissapear because they are inferior to all other curent optical devices. Now you can youse CD-RW ... or normal CD-R because they are cheaper and cheaper every day. The Floppy-disk is actually more expensive than a CD.
But it has some advantages. Like you can use it to move a file (small one 1.4MB is maximum) from a computer to another without having to burn a CD..... but they are unrelayble & easy to break.

Floppy disks were used to move data between computers. They hold a relatively small amount of data and are relatively fragile. In their day they were the only real option for moving data/software between computers,
That job is now done by memory sticks and CD's/DVD's.
