Charles Babbage's engines were among the first mechanical computers. His engines were not actually completed, largely because of funding problems and personality issues.
Babbage realized that a machine could do the work better and more reliably than a human being.
Although Babbage's machines were mechanical monsters their basic architecture was astonishingly similar to a modern computer.
The data and program memory were separated, operation was instruction based, control unit could make conditional jumps and the machine had a separate I/O unit.

Who invented the computer" or the modern coputer? is not a question with a simple answer. The real answer is that many inventors contributed to the history of computers and that a computer is a complex piece of machinery made up of many parts, each of which can be considered a separate invention.

Thomas J Watson,

He was born on 17th February, 1874.
He studied in Miller School of Commerce,
finishing his studies in 1892.

He started a job as drummer.
and started selling organs and pianos,
with George Cornwell. @ US$10 per week.

He also sold sewing machines.

These revealations are there in

It was the Chinese it was called the Abacus. but if you mean what resembles the modern computer it was Charles Babage
