Depends who you talk to.
Some lactation consultants say that nothing you eat can give the baby gas, because fibre is what gives humans gas and there is no fibre in breastmilk.
However my baby couldn't take it if I ate currey.
All babies are different though.

Every baby is different. I believe that if you ate it when you were pregnant you should be able to eat it now. A lot of people told me that garlic was bad for the baby and made the milk taste bad but I have always been a BIG garlic person and my daughters never had a problem with it. Maybe you can eat too much of one thing like broccoli and it will cause gas (maybe) but I wouldn't eliminate it out of your diet, just don't eat too much of it. A lot of the foods you introduce while you are breastfeeding will be easier for your baby to get used to when eating time comes, I think. These are just my opinions. Eat what you want, just don't overload on things that may give your baby gas.

Eating lots of Red sauces, broccoli, onions, peppers of any kind.
I found that if i was going to consume these foods, i would take a beano tablet before eating it so that my body would have what it needs to break down the food better, before it was passed on to the baby in my milk, worked like a charm. You should give it a try.

flatulence may or may not be caused by what the breastfeeding mother is giving herself; some people are just naturally more flatulent than others. but to speak to your question, onions, or anything from the onion family, that the mother eats can pass through the breast to the child causing flatulence.
cabbage, etc. anything that will cause gas in the mother will likely cause gas in the child. again, some are have more sensitive digestion than others.
to answer you first question; a breast feeeding mom should never eat anything that could harm her or her child, such as drugs, including coffee , colas, and cigarettes as well as prescription and nonprescription drugs. the mother should ensure she is eating highly nutritious foods and avoid completely junk or empty calorie foods so that her body is not being robbed of nutrients to feed the child. this can lead to tooth decay in the mother, bone density loss, muscle atrophy, etc.

anything with to much spice is not good for the baby. caffiene is not good for a nursing mother either it will make the baby hyper. try to not change your diet to much it will change the taste of you milk and the baby may not like the change. Good luck.

broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, very green veggies
beans
too much fiber
all very gasey for the little tummy
get your share of calcium and protein
make sure you stay away from caffeine and sweets
Easy on the acidy foods such as tomatoes and peaches...lay low on citrus, oranges, lemons.
Whatever gives you gas will effect the little one.
Enjoy, happy holidays.
