My girlfriend recently took 3 pregnancy tests. The first was positive but she said the line was very faint. The next two were negative. I know a false positive is very unlikely, but is it possible. Shes going to have a blood test Tuesday. I was just wondering if anyone had and experience with false positives.

It could be a couple of things, a false positive is rare but possible. Her hormone levels might have been high that day for some reason. Or she may have in fact been pregnant, but her body rejected it for some reason. Or she could be getting false negatives because its so early on. The best bet is to not speculate and wait and see what the Dr. says.

It is rare and almost impossible to get a false positive. Pregnancy tests only test for hcg which is ONLY produced if you are pregnant. If she used different brands of tests, then that could explain the difference in the results. Some tests require a lower amount of hcg in the urine than others. If she looked at the first test after the time limit (usually 10 mins) then that could explain the positive as well. You can go to www.peeonastick.com for more information, and really all you could ever want to know, about pregnancy tests.

False positives are very rare...so I'm sure your gf is pg. When I took my hpt it was a very faint line too, and even if it is fainted it means she has the hcg (pg hormone) in her body. Probably the other 2 were negative because her levels are low still...but if she got that faint line with the 1st test, start getting ready to become a daddy!

Its very unlikely to get a false positive. chances are that she is not very far along and she is testing too often. you are supposed to do the test in the morning. if you do it later in the day you have to wait at least three hours after your last pee. I would say she is pregnant. Good luck and congrats.

False positives can be caused by:
-A UTI
-A defective test
-Using the test incorrectly
-Reading the test AFTER the time the instructions say to read the test. (So if you go back and look at the test after an hour and it is positive, it really isn't)

Yeah, if there was a positive, there was a baby. However if the follow ups were neg then she prob miscarried.
