to straighten up the house.. Unexpected, last minute company, wants to stop by for a visit! Oh No! What to do first? What would your "frenzy" to straighten up be, on short notice?
( it's not happening to me, at the moment, BUT it could!)

Bathroom. I would be most embarrassed by a dirty bathroom than any other room in the house. A quick wipedown of the sink and toilet will suffice, close the shower curtain to hide that, and sweep the floor. Maybe even put out fresh towels and spray some smell-good or light a candle. After that, I'd pick up all the loose junk and find a home for it out of sight. Then stuff as many dirty dishes into the dishwasher as will fit and get the rest in the sink like you were just getting ready to do them. Wipe down the counters and sweep the floor and you should be OK. Hopefully, your guests won't be critiquing you that hard, but if they do, remind them that you have a busy life, asking and answering questions on Yahoo!

I'd throw anything in the living room into the nearest closet. I'd put dirty dishes in the dishwasher (but not in any particular order) and put pots and pans in the oven. Close the doors to the bedrooms. Turn ceiling fans on (the dirt doesn't show if they're on). Take a wet towel and wipe down the bathroom closest to the living room and scrub the toilet. Spray Lysol directly into the air conditioning/heating intake (it then blows the smell all over the house) Collect loose mail and put it in a bag in the pantry. Wipe the kitchen counters. There done and it only took 10 minutes!! Plenty of time for a shower and a glass of wine for all your hard work.

Try to stall them with little fibs, ask if they could give you a few extra minutes because you have to run to the store quick. When they come to the door you could open the door a crack and tell them you are not dressed and you just hopped out of the shower and ask them to wait or come back in 15 min. That few extra minutes helps, then hurry & clean. I have piled things in a paperbag and put it in a closet they will not go in. I try to keep my house clean at all times.

I would pile all the crap into one room that isn't used often, like a guest room or my bedroom, and close the door. Then I would quickly mop and vacuum the floor and straighten the bathrooms.

I would straighten the living room first, then the bathroom, and then the kitchen. If my children's rooms are a disaster I would just shut their doors and then I would vacuum.

Considering I would not let them in the house means they would get to see the beautiful drive way....we do not do the unexpected, last minute company thing, we feel this is very rude for peeps to just drop in.

Always have a clean house and a clean and nice candle scented living room - then you will be ready for anyone at anytime. That's what I do.
