Night terrors. It causes temporary paralysis because you're so frightened by you're dream that you forget to breathe and you're brain moves you're muscles in an involuntary emergency response to wake you up, in case you're dying. But you're not really awake yet, that takes a few seconds longer.

Wouldn't know.... I don't call it anything because I don't get it.
I'm an experienced lucid dreamer, and can adapt from the process of operating my dream-avatar to my waking body instantly.
With other people though, I wouldn't be surprised if its a result of getting mixed up by the different method of control in the dreamscape... Panic tends to set in during nightmares... and quite often trying anything and everything to take control will rapidly lead to one being able to adapt at least temporarily to manipulate the dreamscape. Since voluntary movement in the dreamscape requires a completely different set of mental signals to movement in the waking world however (not least so sleeping bodies aren't doing whatever their dreamscape avatars are doing) it can leave some people mixed up, trying to send the typical dreamscape control signals to their body... which naturally doesn't respond in the slightest.
As I said though... I don't have any such problems. Even after nightmares I'm quite capable of springing out of bed in an instant, sometimes even before I've opened my eyes and become aware that I'm awake.

It sounds like you are having night terrors causing you to have sleep paralysis. It happens sometimes, but if you are worried about it, then go to a professional. A doctor may be able to prescribe you something to help you with this (i.e. something for sleep apnoiea)
