I know what you mean I had the same problem for 3 months and after about a 100 calls to India I eventually got through to the UK and they tested the line and sent somebody ou, it was a faulty hub. I now have a new hub and and it is excellent! Also you can try connecting your hub via cable and let it find a signal then go back to wireless. When you first connected did you wait an hour before using your pc? This is very important.
I got £136 refund from BT and a free socket in my spare room as compensation, now it is working it takes about a second to load the BBC Wether website...so not bad! Good luck ;-)

I live in Fife in Scotland. Mine had been very slow for the last 3 days. Absolutely nothing wrong with the PC as my other PC is on the same Router via wireless and it was the same. I checked with BT and got India. They of course were as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I rebooted my NETGEAR router and it seems to be OK now. I also updated it's firmware just in case. I reckon it is to do with BT. Probably changed something and not told anyone! I can't complain as I have been with BT for years and generally had no connection or performance issues.

Check to see if your Firewall is configured properly. If its OK then, check whether your Anti Virus software is upto date and there is no conflict with other programs when using the Anti Virus software.
You should have got some Router Settings from your ISP. You have to reboot your Router which will reset to the Default Factory Settings and then, you have to enter the settings of your ISP. Switch on your Router and see. It should work fine. Mine had the same problem and I just did the same thing and it worked fine after that.
What the above setting does is, it clear off all the cached data from your Router which was making problems and starts to fetch new data from you.
But even the above will not work if there is a problem with your computer and not your Brandband Connection. If so, I recommend that you Format or Upgrade your PC and automatically your problem will be solved.
Call Centers will not work anyway !!!. From my Experience

Yup, me too! Always!!
I'm in Paisley and had their Home Hub for nearly 4 weeks now.
I'm on Option 3 which provides "up to" 8 Mbps download speed, but it's never achieved more than 1.307.
Asked their online Helpdesk to fix it - they can't. They told me I had to 'phone their technical help on an 0845 number. I refused.
I then lodged an online complaint (and am still awaiting a result) on Tue. saying their suggestion I pay BT (via the 0845 No.) to fix their problem was objectionable, and if they can't fix it with no cost to me - then they should offer a continuing refund of the Option 3 charge to properly reflect the service being provided until such time as the speed improves to a reasonable rate.
Their response on Wed. was to say they'll get a tech person to contact me in the next 3 to 4 days. Im still waiting.
So, to answer your question - Yes.

this is mainly cause by the amount of new users which BT are connecting. Usually after they switchon a large volume of users it takes a little while ( several days ) for them to rebalance the network. If the probelm goes on for more then a week you may need to contact them.

are you sure you have not got a virus?
has it ever run at a good speed?
if so you might have a bug that is slowing you down
if you use any of these peer2peer networks?
then you need to protect your PC
